Janu Basti


The knee joint is called the Janasandhi in Sanskrit; Hence, Janu Basti name is given to the procedure done on knee joints.

Basti means containing or retaining something inside mainly the medicated oil. In this, the knee joint is bathed with hot heated medicinal oil or freshly prepared herbal decoction. This procedure is done to strengthen the knee muscles i.e. to improve the functioning of the muscles, joints and knees joint, in order to prevent it and degenerative changes. Between 55-65 years of knee diseases, approximately 80% of the population is worried. The most common illness is Osteoarthritis (OA). Management of any disease is unique in Ayurveda and that gives you an amazing result.


Treatment Method:

In this process, the patient is asked to lie on the massage table (Droni) from his back.

A reservoir on the knee joint is made with black gram dough, on which the whole process takes place.

During the therapy of Janu Basti; the lukewarm medicated oil is slowly poured on the reservoir made. When the oil starts cooling, cotton gauze is soaked out in order to take out the oil from the dough ring. The same procedure is repeated again & again.

At the end of the procedure, the ring is removed and the affected area may be gently massaged; the person is then made to take rest for a short while.
